Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Glaze:
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add the warm milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the remaining flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- Shape the Donuts:
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness.
- Use a donut cutter or two round cutters (one large and one small) to cut out the donuts and donut holes.
- Place the cut donuts and holes on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover them with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Fry the Donuts:
- In a large, deep pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place a few donuts into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
- Fry each side for about 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove the donuts with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Repeat with the remaining donuts and holes.
- Glaze the Donuts:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Dip each warm donut into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off.
- Place the glazed donuts on a wire rack to set.
